Hello and welcome! I am so glad you are here. I know reaching out for help can be difficult. Deciding to enter therapy is a big deal and an extremely personal choice. I realize it may not be an easy choice but by being here, it means you are making a decision to invest in yourself and your family.
I am Jennifer Whitfield, the owner and provider of Hope Health & Healing Counseling Center, LLC. I entered the mental health field in 2009 where my passion in working with children and families sparked. Over the years, I have worked in a variety of outpatient and inpatient centers with children, teens and adults both via telehealth and in person. I proudly opened the doors to Hope Health & Healing Counseling Center in 2014.
Education & Credentials
I am a Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor-Supervisor and Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor™, Certified Infant-Family Mental Health and I am also trained in Perinatal Mental Health. I am currently studying for the exam which will grant me Perinatal Mental Health Certification. I have also completed the Becoming Us™ Facilitator Training with Elly Taylor and I am an approved facilitator for the Becoming Us™ Program. I also hold licensure in the state of Virginia and Washington D.C.
FL: Licensed Mental Health Counselor MH12672
Virginia: Licensed Professional Counselor 0701013013
Washington DC: Licensed Professional Counselor PRC200002039
Expertise & Experience
My passion and specialties are working within pregnancy, postpartum, infant-family mental health, parenting support and family therapy including LGBTIQA+ parents and families, and Play Therapy with toddlers, children and adolescents.
I have extensive experience and training providing services addressing perinatal mood and anxiety conditions, including pregnancy loss, infertility, and birth trauma; adjustment through pregnancy and postpartum periods, postpartum and 4th trimester planning and support, parenting challenges, attachment wounds, relationship difficulties, maternal/family- infant support, as well as concerns related to emotional and behavioral challenges with children and adolescents.
As a licensed provider, we are bound and legally required to complete ongoing trainings, CEU's, and consultation to maintain effective levels of care. I love to learn, and see myself as a forever student. While I could never fully list out all the trainings, workshops, books and seminars that I have completed over the years, I have highlighted some key focus areas of my training, studies and certifications that are incorporated into my work and theoretical approach.
My approach, however, is always tailored to your needs. I meet you where you are, helping you get to where you want to go. Everyone is different, just as your needs and treatment will be different. Some prefer talk therapy where others may find connection and healing through expressive therapies. When you come into my office, we will create an individualized plan of how to accomplish your identified goals and what works best for you.
I see my role as one that facilitates positive change and helps to guide you through the twists and turns of life. In my office, I provide a welcoming, open and safe space for your self-discovery and growth. In my office you will be met with compassion, warmth, and support, while helping to keep you accountable and focused on your growth and goals. I will empower and encourage you to take responsibility for your healing. I believe we all have the strength of healing ourselves. Sometimes, however, that ability feels lost and we need someone to help us find it.
It is my honor to be a part of your story as you find hope, health and take your first step towards healing.
